12 Month Calendar History. Historical societies used the day, solar year, and lunation. Babylonian calendar, chronological system used in ancient mesopotamia, based on a year of 12 synodic months—i.e., 12 complete cycles of phases of the moon.

The history of calendars dates back to prehistoric times. Why don’t we use a 13 month calendar with 28 days per month?
